streets of myeongdong |
but one has to definitely come at least once, because firstly, shopping is good! you have the usual street brands (h&m, forever 21, zara, mango, topshop), the back alleys of cheap but trendy local trends, as well as slightly more pricey beanpole, gap and glamorous lotte dept and shinsaegae just opposite. then, of course there's the make-up and skincare main street. you won't miss it (unless you are oblivious to the tugs and shouts of the salespeople standing outside the stores), and why should you? just by stepping in, you'll get free basket of samples readily handed out to shoppers and usually, it's a brand new world of products once you properly look at everything. koreans really know their skincare, so it's great to try. some of my fave brands are:
- saem (diamond lifting serum)
- it's skin (the prestige d e'scargot range and power10 series)
- missha (cotton white range of body wash, handcream etc)
- laneige (the water essence series, fab fab fab!)
- too cool for school (love the packaging!!! blotters are good!)
- hanskin (natural rich handcream- only one that works for me!)
obviously, you also can find familiar food-names like crystal jade, pizza hut, mac's here too, but i'll always recommend trying random places for cold noodles, dumplings (famous in myeongdong!), and other traditional korean dishes.
